One thing is certain about the way the Law of Attraction has been taught, and the way in which the great majority of people are using it: It just doesn't work.

Millions of people have seen or read The Secret and believe in the Law of Attraction, but have been very disappointed with their poor results in using it.

I have been investigating this phenomenon long before the runaway success of the best-selling book and movie by Rhonda Byrne.

I've also compared notes with many of the teachers in the original movie, with whom I regularly associate as a member of the Transformational Leadership Council, whose members were the teachers featured in the movie. They mostly agree with me, with certain exceptions.

The premise of “The Law” is truly tantalizing: Whatever you think, if you think it hard enough and long enough and clearly enough, MANIFESTS!

But is this true?

It appears that within certain finite parameters, yes, and from an infinite perspective, NO!

Is it Even a Law?

Look at a pragmatic example which will make it very simple.

First, for something to be called a “law,” it must be true anywhere and everywhere at all times, and verifiably duplicable in any laboratory when its basic parameters are followed.

Consider the law of gravity, for example. Jump head first off a ten-story building onto concrete and you will fall at almost the exact same speed as everyone else and the body will die, virtually 100% of the time. It doesn't matter where you are, who you are, or whether you believe it or not—the law of gravity is real.

If you read my books or hear me speak, you'd get that I'm a metaphysical open-minded thinker.

But I love truth more than beliefs.

Beliefs vs. Truth

Beliefs are what might be true, what is hoped to be true, what one wishes to be true, and even fantasizes is truth. Beliefs might be, truth is.

If I visualize, affirm, meditate on, and pray for my goal of becoming an NBA basketball player, can I ever really "attract" it to happen? Facts: I am a 52-year-old 5'10" Caucasian male.

Some folks might get into new-agey rationalizations that my premise is flawed, and that I'm being negative to the degree that I'm violating the “law", but with any honesty, you know I'm not.

C'mon folks, Kareem Abdul Jabbar is roughly my age, and he was the greatest NBA center statistically. Don't you think he'd like to re-capture his heyday? Hell, YES! And if the Law of Attraction were true...he could.

I love the concept of the Law of Attraction, but I love truth more. To me, truth is God. I love truth beyond beliefs, because truth is what is, and the humble acceptance of it.

Vibration Precedes Attraction

In science there is a law called the "Law of Sympathetic Resonance." Experiment with it for yourself, because it is anywhere and everywhere always true.

You can verify it with any stringed musical instrument and a tuning fork. Say you were to take a guitar, and had a tuning fork tuned to middle A in the traditional tempered musical scale (440 CPS or hertz). If you tap the fork on your knee it vibrates, emanating invisible sound waves.

Now without touching the guitar strings, if you were to hold it close to the strings and move from one to the next, you’d hear nothing until you got to middle A string. Then, as if by magic, the string would “turn on” and make a sound without ever having been touched.

This is the scientific basis for the so-called Law of Attraction. So there is some truth to it, but here is the missing piece to why it works inconsistently.

There is a spiritual principle that profoundly influences the equation. Is the “law” being used for selfish reasons and individual gain, or for a moral and sacred purpose to serve others and alleviate suffering?

I believe the Law of Attraction is mis-named, because it puts the focus onto what the user gets out of the deal, which neglects a much more important ingredient: what they’re willing to give.

The key is not focusing on the attraction part of the equation; the key is focusing on getting your vibration right through powerful choices, thoughts, words, and by taking powerful action.

The Real Formula Begins with the Right Element

This ingredient begins by choosing a noble intention. Be honest and ask yourself, “Is my intention selfish or soul-fish?”

Your intention will deeply influence the end result. There is great proof of this fact in my friend Lynn McTaggart’s fine book entitled, The Intention Experiment.

In one of my books, The Prosperity Paradigm, I specifically address how to use what I call the Law of Vibration and Attraction in painstaking detail.

Being a productivity teacher in the financial services industry, I’ve seen far too many clients futilely try to apply the Law of Attraction to make more money.

They get their visualization boards, and their affirmations and the whole deal but they forget the most important premise: You gotta put something into the “bucket” before you can honestly expect to take something out of it.

Go serve somebody.

Create Favorable Conditions; Results Take Care of Themselves

Laws are mechanistic rules that operate predictably within controlled Newtonian parameters.

Principles seem to work best with organic systems like human beings. A principle isn't a law, which is irrefutable, but principles do work to create favorable conditions for a reality to actualize.

So if you're seeking to make more money, I suggest trying this principle: Begin with a good intention, using the equation Intention = Noble Goal + Non-attachment. (The non-attachment part is big, so big we’ll cover that in another blog soon.)

Then just BE the Cause, and make it a worthy cause that creates real value for others

In a world of cause and effect, value creation is the cause, money is the effect. Dollars follow value.

Strike the "tuning fork" of value creation in service to others first, and using this principle, chances are that the money will follow.

People have access to, and always create from, one of three planes of potential: the physical realm, the mental realm, and the spiritual realm. The spiritual realm is the place of highest possibility, the mental realm is the middle, and the physical realm is the lowest.

Creating from the physical realm only dictates that we follow basic animal instincts, thus is the most limited realm.

Creating from the mental realm exponentially increases results because you have engaged a higher engine, which is the mind, and combined it with the chassis of the body. You are not only working hard (physical) but you are also working smart.

Creating from the spiritual realm is a quantum leap unlike any other. It combines all three realms; working hard and smart but driven by the indefatigable power of the God-self.

The God-Self provides us with an amazing aspiration to succeed because Soul Purpose is the thing you already most love to do. H2O can be seen as ice, water, or steam depending on the intensity of its molecular speed. Similarly, the human being can be physical, mental, or spiritual depending on the intensity of aspiration to succeed.

Careful study of the following chart will illustrate the enormous difference between the potential results in productivity that are possible when creating from the spiritual realm:

Realm State Ethic Essence Process Style Model
Spiritual God-Self Work Mission Soul Being Creative Interdependent
Mental Ego-Self Work Smart Mind Thinking Proactive Independent
Physical Animal-Self Work Hard Body Doing Reactive Dependent

Exponential Growth in the Spiritual Realm

From my research, one year of physical work can create enough value for others to generate twenty thousand dollars of income. One year of working in the mental realm may create enough value for others to earn two hundred thousand dollars of income. One year spent working from the spiritual realm of Soul Purpose can easily generate two million dollars.

Notice the ten times exponential growth that can occur due to the phenomenal leap in power as one transcends from the physical to the mental to the spiritual realm.

To illustrate this point, consider a construction worker who makes his living at the level of the physical realm. He uses his body to make a living, and while it is honest, honorable work, this career has limited pay and longevity potential. He works "hard," but after a while his sore body, lack of creative input, and limited pay make him eventually feel stuck in his body. He is discontented.

Deciding he wants to earn more, he chooses to work "smart," and changes careers to one that uses his mind—let’s say he chooses a career as a financial planner. He has shifted realms of power from the physical to the mental, into a higher realm of potential in which pay and longevity are greatly increased. Financial planners have been known to work well into their eighties, and some earn millions of dollars a year.

He begins studying the stock market and financial trade magazines and enrolls in night school to eventually get a degree as a Certified Financial Planner. Five years later he has a thriving book of business, and looks back in amazement at his old salary of $20,000 a year in construction compared to his current salary of $200,000 a year as a financial planner. He has used his mind as the way out of the limitations innate to the physical realm, but may have unknowingly adopted the belief that the mind is the way out of every dilemma.

While he is earning more, he has reached a false ceiling in his productivity, is overweight, unhappy, and argues with his wife and/or kids. Why? He has now become stuck in his mind. The quandary of the mental realm is that the mind convinces you that it is the pinnacle of human existence. Everyone stuck in the mental realm secretly believes his beliefs are right and superior to others. That which was once the way out, has become the next impediment to be transcended.

Transcend the Mind

One of my coaching clients once found himself in a dilemma similar to the above story. By committedly doing his spiritual disciplines, he created unique products and services that are now generating in excess of two million dollars yearly. You have the exact same potential.

But if you aren’t experiencing greater prosperity it is most likely because you're trapped in the mind. As such, you do not have direct access to your Soul Purpose. In fact, so many people are trapped in their mind that they don’t even believe the soul exists, much less has a purpose.

To begin awakening to your Soul purpose, start by seeing yourself as the spirit in the body who has a mind, but is not the mind.

Most people live according to an either/or perspective. We think we must choose between money or love/passion. We think that we must choose between being a good person and acquiring material wealth. We feel forced to choose between our family and our career.

Similarly, most business training programs teach you how to do at the expense of who you can and should become.

The Soul Purpose Institute helps you shed this false perception and embrace the reality and joy of both. Living from the spiritual realm as a love-driven being gives you new eyes to avoid such misguided choices.

Reality is two sides of the same coin, and both sides are equally important. These are the Mechanistic and the Ontological aspects of reality.

The Mechanistic aspect of reality governs the scientific, pragmatic aspects of life. It is generally known as the Newtonian paradigm, named after Isaac Newton. Mechanistic reality is logical and operates in the domain of the provable. By studying and practicing this aspect, scientists achieved enormous breakthroughs in technology, medicine, and business.

This governs the “doing” aspect of producing at higher levels. It increases the ability to think, speak, and act strategically to offer superior value propositions. At the mechanistic level of business reality, profit is the most accurate tool of validating the precise amount of value being provided in the marketplace.

Ontology is the study of being. The Ontological aspect of reality, therefore, governs feeling joy, inner peace, and ultimately love. We call it the spiritual paradigm. Who you are being while you are doing a task has great impact on the end result. If a salesperson has a great product but is arrogant and pushy, chances are you will not exchange with him. Even though the mechanistic aspect (a superior product/service) may be in place, when the being aspect is lacking or misguided, results are limited.

The “being,” or ontological, aspect of reality is not within the domain of the provable, but it is verifiable. You cannot necessarily “see” love, happiness, or fulfillment, but you know they exist. They are states of being.

The mechanistic aspect dominates the business world of entrepreneurship and must be complied with to pragmatically increase profit and market share. The being aspect comes into play when we talk about acting with enlightenment. Most human beings violate at least one, and sometimes both, aspects of reality.

The Enlightened Entrepreneur™ course addresses both aspects of reality. It focuses on both the spiritual practices and business systems to help students live the masterpiece life.
